OVERVIEW
Certification Description
The Safety Trained Supervisor Construction (STSC) credential certifies that an individual has leadership experience, knowledge and willingness to promote a safe construction working environment. This certification is for managers, supervisors, executives, directors and employees. These individuals may not have safety as a primary duty, but they do have the knowledge and competency to strengthen the foundation of safety across their workplace.
Professionals with this specialty credential may have career advancement opportunities and higher pay that other professionals may not be eligible for.
Skills Focus
The certification focuses on the following areas:
- Knowledge of common hazards and controls, such as cutting, welding, grinding, ladders, platforms, confined spaces and rigging
- Ability to recognize chronic health hazards and musculoskeletal disorders that are common on the construction worksite
- Understanding the basics of first aid procedures and universal precautions
- Competency in identifying fire hazards and willingness to abide by fire safety procedures
- Ability to implement safety controls
- Comprehension of how to complete a safety inspection and audit
- Ability to follow basic concepts of ergonomics

- Prerequisites: Applicant must have 30 hours of safety, health and environmental training; applicant must have 2+ years of supervisory experience OR 4 years of construction work experience

- Re-certification and certification renewal: Every 5 years
