Certification Description
The Certified Foot Care Nurse (CFCN) certification certifies that an RN has the specialized training and skills to care for patients with foot issues. Nurses with this credential may provide foot care assessments, interventions and patient education.
Nurses with this specialty credential may have career advancement opportunities and higher pay that other nurses may not be eligible for.

The certification focuses on the following areas:
- Knowledge of foot care principles, such as hygiene
- Understanding of preventive skin care strategies
- Competency working with compression therapy techniques
- Capability to choose the appropriate topical treatments in various scenarios
- Willingness to educate patients on wound treatment
- Familiarity with age-related conditions that impact the lower half of the body
- Ability to recommend other medical consultations
- Understanding of toenail anatomy

- Prerequisites: Applicant must be a current RN; applicant must have a bachelor’s degree or higher; applicant must have 24+ continuing education credits in foot care

- Re-certification and certification renewal: Every 5 years
