Certification Description
The Dermatology Nurse Certified (DNC) certification certifies that an RN has the skill level and expertise to provide care for patients with conditions and diseases of the skin. Nurses with this credential are skilled and knowledgeable in all areas of dermatology nursing.
Nurses with this specialty certification may have career advancement opportunities and higher pay that other nurses may not be eligible for.
Skills Focus
The certification focuses on the following areas:
- Knowledge of general dermatology, surgical dermatology and phototherapy
- Understanding of proper wound care
- Competency working with papulosquamous disorders
- Ability to optimize patient responses to hypersensitivity, infections and other conditions
- Knowledge of the treatment of immunologic diseases and vesiculobullous diseases
- Familiarity with phototherapy procedures, such as PUVA
- Ability to assist in dermatology procedures

- Issuing Organization: Dermatology Nurses’ Association (DNA)
- Prerequisites: Applicants must hold an active RN; applicants must have completed 2+ years and 2,000+ hours of experience in dermatology nursing within the past 2 years
- Questions: 175
- Time: 240 minutes
- Cost: Cost: $200 for DNA members and $275 for non-members
- Re-certification and certification renewal: Every 3 years
