Certification Description
The Clinical Nurse Specialist Perioperative (CNS-CP) certification certifies that a master’s prepared nurse has the advanced education and skill level to provide advanced levels of services to patients before, during and after surgery. Nurses with this certification are able to provide insight on patient care, project management and education. The primary goal of a CNS-CP is to improve the quality of care patients receive while positively impacting the healthcare organization.
Nurses with this advanced specialty credential may have career advancement opportunities and higher pay that other nurses may not be eligible for.

- Prerequisites: Applicant must complete the CNS-CP Certification Form; applicant must submit a professional portfolio for review to obtain certification; applicant must be currently working as a clinical nurse specialist (CNS) in perioperative nursing; applicant must have graduated from an accredited graduate, post-master’s certificate or doctoral program in nursing from a clinical nurse specialist (CNS) program; applicants must either hold an active RN or APRN license; applicant must meet all licensure, education and experience requirements as outlined in the CNS-CP handbook.
