Certification Description
The Certified Radiology Nurse (CRN) certification certifies that an RN has the skill level and expertise to care for patients who need various types of diagnostic tests and treatments. RNs with this certification may assist radiologists with medical procedures.
Nurses with this specialty credential may have career advancement opportunities and higher pay that other nurses may not be eligible for.
Skills Focus
The certification focuses on the following areas:
- Knowledge of diagnostic imaging
- Understanding of fluoroscopy
- Competency working with cardiac catheterizations
- Ability to perform all types of ultrasounds
- Knowledge of nuclear medicine
- Familiarity with VQ scans and Hepatobiliary scans
- Willingness to comply with legislative, legal and ethical issues
Exam Objectives
Exam Details
- Issuing Organization: Radiologic Nursing Certification Board (RNCB)
- Prerequisites: Applicants must hold an active RN license; applicant has 2,000+ hours of radiology nursing in the last 3 years; applicant has 30+ hours of continuing education, in the past 24 months, in nursing care of radiology patients; exams are administered 2 times per year during the months of April and October. Beginning in 2020, the exams will be administered during the months of January, April, July and October
- Questions: 150
- Time: 180 minutes
- Cost: Cost: $325 for ARIN Members; $425 for non-members
- Re-certification and certification renewal: Every 4 years
