Certification Description
The Certified Plastic Surgical Nurse (CPSN) certification certifies that an individual has the experience and knowledge to work with patients that are undergoing surgical and non-surgical plastic surgery procedures. Nurses with this certification screen patients, help with treatments/procedures and monitor the recovery process.
Skills Focus
The certification focuses on the following areas:
- Understanding of how to monitor patient status pre-treatment, during treatment and post-treatment
- Knowledge of how to properly administer treatment during the various stages of the procedures
- Understanding of disease processes and trauma
- Competency working with non-surgical procedures, such as aesthetic injectable procedures and energy therapies
- Knowledge of cosmetic surgical procedures
- Understanding of soft tissue injuries
- Familiarity working with clinical skin care techniques

- Issuing Organization: Plastic Surgical Nursing Certification Board (PSNCB)
- Prerequisites: Applicant must be a current RN; applicant must be currently working in the field of plastic surgery nursing; applicant must have completed 2+ years of plastic surgery nursing experience within the last 3 years; applicant must have completed 1,000+ hours of plastic surgery nursing experience within the last 3 years
- Questions: 175 (150 scored)
- Time: 240 minutes
- Cost: $195 for ISPAN members AAPC members, $295 non-members
- Re-certification and certification renewal: Every 3 years
