Certification Description
The Certified Instructional Trainer (CIT) certification, formerly the Certified Environmental, Safety & Health Trainer (CET) certification, certifies that an individual has knowledge and expertise in developing, designing, and delivering safety, health and environmental training to other individuals.
Professionals with this specialty credential may have career advancement opportunities and higher pay that other professionals may not be eligible for.
Skills Focus
The certification focuses on the following areas:
- Knowledge of common environmental, health and safety concerns and requirements
- Ability to use various instructional strategies that are considered appropriate for the lessons and students
- Understanding of how to control the classroom setting so it can be optimal for the learning experience
- Competency in training program diagnostics
- Ability to revise programs based on the needs and feedback of the students
- Comprehension of how training reports are used and how these reports can show the effectiveness of the programs
- Ability to determine tangible results in order to establish the program’s efficiency

- Prerequisites: Applicants must have 135 hours of teaching, training or development in any safety, health or environmental specialty
