Certification Description
The Board Certified Specialist in Child Language (BCS-CL) credential certifies that an individual has the advanced knowledge and clinical and leadership skills necessary to evaluate, diagnose and treat communication disorders in children.
This certification shows that the individual is highly experienced within the field of child language disorders. The credential is only obtained by those who can show documentation and evidence of extensive clinical work history and advanced education.

There is no exam for this credential. However, applicants must show that they have the extensive clinical work experience and knowledge and leadership skills required for obtaining the credential. An application and all necessary documentation must be completed and submitted to the American Board of Child language and Language Disorders (ABCLLD) for review.

Exam Details
- Issuing Organization: American Board of Child Language and Language Disorders (ABCLLD)
- Prerequisites: Applicant must hold a current Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP); applicant must verify an equivalent of 5 years of full-time clinical experience after obtaining the CCC with an emphasis on child language, within the 10 years prior to submitting an application; applicant must document 100 hours of intermediate or advanced educational experiences in the area of child language within the 10 years prior to submitting an application; applicant must demonstrate advanced knowledge, skills and leadership in the following four domains: 1) Leadership, administration, and advanced professional practice; 2) Collaboration and consultation; 3) Education and advocacy; and 4) Clinical services; applicant must submit all necessary documentation with the application
