OVERVIEW
Certification Description
The Associate Safety Professional (ASP) certification is for professionals who perform at least 50% of safety duties in a workplace. These individuals have shown competency in performing worksite assessments to determine risks and potential safety hazards, investigating accidents, preparing emergency response plans, managing safety programs and maintaining and evaluating incident and loss records.
Professionals with this specialty credential may have career advancement opportunities and higher pay that other professionals may not be eligible for.
Skills Focus
The certification focuses on the following areas:
- Knowledge of ergonomic hazards
- Ability to recognize unsafe conditions
- Understanding of the basic of toxicology principals
- Ability to calculate electrical and mechanical calculations
- Comprehension of fire science
- Ensure that all toxics are properly stored and the exposure limits are known
- Ability to assess employee competency
- Willingness to be a part of conflict resolution and multidisciplinary concepts

- Prerequisites: Applicant will have minimum of a bachelor’s degree in any field or an associate’s degree in safety, health or the environment; applicant must have 1+ years of safety experience

- Cost: $510
- Re-certification and certification renewal: Every 5 years
